Alfa Romeo 147 flashing odometer

A great majority of Alfa Romeo 147 owners experienced the flashing odometer problem. This means that when you start your Alfa 147, the odometer starts flashing. It goes on and off, while showing all the data it regularly does.

This problem may be resulted by one of the two following resons:

1. On every startup, the main computer executes the whole series of tests. It reads the states from a large number of sensors, and then either everything works as it should, or the car starts with some error lights on, or it doesn't start at all. If, for some reason, the main CPU hasn't completed all the tests, the car will start with the flashing odometer. This doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong in your car, this only means there is a test (or some of them) that couldn't be completed. What you need to do is turn your engine off, turn the ignition on, wait for all the buzzes in your car to go off, and then start the engine. If the odometer keeps flashing, it is probably caused by the reason number 2.

2. If the flashing odometer happens very often, or the problem won't go away after restarting the engine, you should check your battery. When the battery is weak, the odometer keeps flashing. If the odometer won't stop flashing after replacing the battery, it means something is wrong, but the dashboard doesn't have the light for that part, which means it's time for a system diagnostic test.
