Alfa Romeo 147 odometer not showing mileage

Some Alfa Romeo 147 owners experienced problem with the odometer. For some reason the odometer stopped showing total mileage. Instead of kilometers driven, the odometer shows lines. System diagnostics are not showing any error, odometer reseting gave no results also, neither did the proxi alignment.

Unfortunately there is no other solution to this problem but changing the whole odometer. The reason for this problem is a dead chip in the odometer whose function is recording the kilometers driven. Sometimes this chip just stops working, but also this can be a sign that somebody tempered with the total mileage. This is a kind of protection against manual changing the total mileage state. If you tray to change the mileage, the most probable outcome will be thic chip dead, and odometer showing only flat lines.
